mother's day gifts

April 23, 2015 by Taryn Antoniou in art, artist, floral design, flowers, home decor, illustrations, wall art, watercolor, mothers day

Mother's Day is coming up and I reworked some pieces for the special day!  There are prints, iPhone cases, and my personal favorite, mugs! You can check them out on Society 6.  Click the "SHOP" button above!

I have such a great weekend planned for Mother's Day.  My mom is coming to visit me in New York and her big gift is going to see Kelly & Michael Live.  She has been planning her outfit ever since I told her the big news.  We are SO excited.  May 10th is just around the corner!!

day 23: freedom + forgiveness

February 22, 2015 by Taryn Antoniou in art, artist, floral design, flowers, healthy living, home, illustrations, inspiration, nyc, South boston, sundays, watercolor, yoga, boston

The painting above was originally a tattoo design for a little yogi friend of mine, Joanna.  Last summer when I was back home visiting I took one of her classes (which kicked my ass in the best way) and then after we spent the afternoon in the North End catching up on life, talking about my illustrations, her yoga, and what it was like for her moving out of NYC and back to Boston.  She has really built a beautiful life for herself in back home.   She teaches yoga and lives in one of the coolest neighborhoods in Boston.  I think she was the first person to help me see that you don't HAVE to stay in NY to find this "career fulfillment."  I know that seems a little obvious but when you're in it you feel it's the only option.  She definitely opened my eyes a bit.

If you are in the Boston area and want to take a class from my friend Joanna, she teaches at North End Yoga + South Boston Yoga.  Her classes are fantastic.  I sweat so much she needed to bring me a towel in the middle of teaching.  I really loved her class.  When I go to visit I'll have to make a pit stop in the city.  Her website is joannabenevides.com

So I think the wild flowers above are a nice little symbol of freedom for this practice. I really love this watercolor.. especially with the piles of snow outside, it's a reminder of spring.  As always, Adriene leads a relaxing and empowering practice in day 23.  I don't want it to end!  I have a feeling this yoga challenge will quickly become my new "series on Netflix that I just watch on repeat." BUT she does have other videos that I am very excited to dive into.

Take care, be well, and happy Sunday!

chasing white fences

July 11, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in flowers, inspiration, photography

Cape Cod is such a special place.   Everyone in Massachusetts travels there for their summer holidays.  Each family has a different town that they call their own.  My family would stay in Dennis or Yarmouth each summer.  We would meet up with our friends and have huge cookouts. There were about 7 of us kids that were all around the same age and it was perfect.  We would fly kites, collect seashells and hermit crabs, go fishing, build sandcastles.  The best feeling was crawling into bed feeling a little sandy, a little sun kissed and being so excited for the next day.  All of these things make up the memories of my childhood.

This  recent trip was flooded with feelings of nostalgia.  My mom and I drove past all of our old beach cottages that we've had over the years and reminisced.   It was so nice.

I used this trip to find some floral inspiration for future paintings and illustrations.  My poor mother pulled over along side way too many white picket fences with beach roses so that I could snap a shot or... seven.  She's a true champion.

The real icing on the cake of my vacation is happening right now. Listening to the crickets outside my window. Perfection.

c + m horoscopes: cancer

June 29, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in art, astrology, brooklyn, fire escape sketches, flower crowns, flowers, horoscopes, illustrations, sundays, wall art

Cancer is, as you've guessed, the astrological sign that I hold nearest and dearest to my heart because it is of course my sign!  Hence, the crab and the moon.  The crab being the zodiac symbol and the moon being our ruling planet.

I plan on making this a two part series by doing an additional crab illustration.  I've been sketching but it hasn't really clicked just yet.

This little number I came up with is a waning crescent moon, which is the moon I was born under, with poppies, peonies and lithianthus blooming from it.  The flowers and the outer circle also represent a flower crown symbolizing summer and every moon maiden's inner flower child.  It was originally suppose to be my first tattoo.   This piece is very special to me to say the least.

farm to table

June 14, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in South boston, Food, Local

Many moons ago, when I lived in South Boston, this little shop filled with all organic and locally grown goods opened up called American Provisions.  My best girl and I were their biggest fans!  We signed their petition to allow them to sell alcohol and we purchased their food and coffee every chance we got.  The products they carried were not only delicious but the packaging was so cool.

Two years later their shelves are stocked with beer and wine, their variety of products have grown so much and the shop was looking as fantastically merchandised as ever!  Everything in there is presented perfectly. From the vintage shopping baskets they offer at the door to the basket of freshly made breakfast sandwiches at the register, everything is just so damn Instagram worthy!  I'm telling you, presentation and packaging is everything..... as we learned $200 later.

They now carry Mast Brothers Chocolate which made me feel right at home!  Grabbed one with a motorcycle print for Father's Day!

If you're in the Southie area I highly suggest stopping by for at least a coffee.  It's also a great pit stop before a BBQ for a host or hostess gift this summer!
They're located at 613 E. Broadway in South Boston.

beauty, dreams and floral collide

June 10, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in flowers, floral design, brooklyn, inspiration

If there were ever a company that would make my stomach drop and these hazel eyes tear up a bit it would have to be Saipua. Now I know that seems dramatic, especially since I was only introduced to them today (of course I had to share), but wow. This brand is like a little piece of heaven.

They are a family owned business that started as a soap company. Now, as you can see, they have mastered floral design and opened their own farm so that they can grow their own flowers. You must visit their website. The photos are so inspiring and beautiful.

I am super intrigued by their Little Flower School. I think this is something that would make me smile on the daily. And what do you know! They're located right in Brooklyn.

A huge thank you to little Miss Lauren Schindel who found this treasure and knew it was the website of my dreams. Lauren, let's set a date to go explore!
