@yeswilliamsburg instagram takeover

February 21, 2015 by Taryn Antoniou in brooklyn, artist, decor, fire escape sketches, flower crowns, flowers, home decor, inspiration, interior design, interior inspirations, nyc, plants, store design

Today I took over @yeswilliamsburg's Instagram account and I am loving it.  I am doing what I love which is sharing what inspires me. This time it's with a larger audience than my own.   Very cool!

Every restaurant and every shop in Williamsburg has such a cool vibe and is so visually stimulating.  All I do when I'm here is take pictures.  So far I've taken everyone to Bakeri, my most favorite and adorable coffee and bake shop, my bestie Sadah's apartment that she let's me go crazy and style and decorate however I want, GANT Rugger Williasmburg, my proudest moment in my Visual Marketing career, and Sprout Home, where I get my flower crowns and love to look at all of their trinkets, plants, and home decor!  There are so many other places I could share as well but I only have 3 more posts left!

Above is a photo of my fire escape from when I lived here.  I loved setting it up with all of my plants and pillows.  I would have a beer and watch TV through my window while I sketched.  It was heaven.   I miss it.  But one thing I definitely don't miss are the sounds of Bedford at night... I do not miss that.

Anyways, I'll be posting away into the night so follow along on @yeswilliamsburg + @thecrabandthemoon!

fancy brunch at home

February 08, 2015 by Taryn Antoniou in brooklyn, Food, healthy living, sundays, brunch, recipe

Now that I live on my own I can't be out brunching and lunching like I used to.  So!  I made a fancy Brooklyn inspired brunch for myself. When I cook.... especially when I'm making it up along the way... I tend to not measure.   This is exactly why I don't bake.  I just don't like following directions!  So below, I have left a general idea of how I made this.

INGREDIENTS

kale
turkey bacon
1 egg
armesan cheese (grated)
2 lemons
1/4 cup of olive oil
3 large cloves of garlic (minced)
thyme, salt, & pepper

Take a 1/2 bunch of kale, chop it up, rinse, and set aside in a bowl. Then cook up 4 strips of turkey bacon, chop, and sprinkle over kale.

For the dressing squeeze two full lemons and mix into your salad as well as one large handful of parmesan cheese.  Then warm about a 1/4 of a cup or less of olive oil in a small pot with 3 large cloves of garlic, minced, over medium heat.  Heat for only 1 minute and make sure to NOT brown the garlic.  Let it cool for a few minutes before mixing it into your salad.

For your soft boiled egg, bring water to a boil in a pot (enough water to fully submerge your egg).  Once your water is boiling bring it down to a simmer and carefully place your egg in the water using a spoon. Let it simmer for 7 minutes and then rinse your egg under icy cold water for 1-2 minutes.

After pealing and cutting your egg in half place it on top of your salad. Sprinkle some salt, pepper and thyme over top and enjoy!!

Let me know if you try this recipe and if you have any yummy additions!

Happy Sunday!

inspiring sundays

January 25, 2015 by Taryn Antoniou in brooklyn, decor, Food, healthy living, home decor, inspiration, interior inspirations, Local, love, nyc, store design, sundays, wall art, weaving, yoga

Today I found some inspiration on Franklin Street in Greenpoint.  Sadah and I had the most adorable brunch and then walked around.  We hit up People of 2morrow, Home of the Brave, a few other cute home decor shops.  The store designs were all just as beautiful as the product.  Makes me excited for the day that I have a whole house to design instead of just one room.

I also got closer to finishing my frame wall.  Very excited about that.  I think I need maybe three more and my collection will be complete!

So the shopping therapy was taken care and now we take care of the mind and body...

Lately I've been doing two videos a night.  That's just how I function... I'm in my zone and I want to keep going.  Day 10 was nice and is why I love these videos so much.  They are challenging but they also allow you to relax and not feel like you have to have this crazy difficult work out everyday.  It's nice.  I also just think she's hysterical.

I hope some of you have tried these videos or at the very least they have inspired you to get out and move around in your own way.  One of my best friends, who was also a yoga instructor, would always encourage me to just simply move around a little.  It doesn't take much to release stress and make your body feel good.

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

pet portraits: for the plant owners

December 22, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in brooklyn, diy, handmade, illustrations, pet portraits, plants, wall art, watercolor, christmas

There's a gift, an illustration, and a pet for everyone!  Every Christmas for the past 2 years my assistant and I have exchanged some epic gifts (his gifts were more epic than mine).  This Christmas I decided to make it super personal.  Plants, art, and tattoos are a few of his favorite things, so I decided to hand paint his most recent tattoos on a wall hanging pot for a new cactus pet!  A friend then gave me the witty idea to paint a "pet portrait" of the little guy.

A big thank you to Baked in Brooklyn for making my personalized gifting dreams come true!

gift giving: lovewild design

November 18, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in artist, brooklyn, flowers, inspiration, nyc, watercolor

A few months ago I met Sierra of Lovewild Design at the Artists & Fleas in Brooklyn. Her shop just jumped out at me. She really created her own little world down to every last detail. Everything from her products to the dress she was wearing to the milkmaid braid in her hair, she fully embodied her brand. It's people like Sierra who inspire me the most when trying to build my own brand.

That day I purchased a gift for a friend and a gift for myself. The tea vial gift set got the butterflies flapping in my stomach. Had to have them! They're almost too pretty to use, but as you can see from our Instagram I've cracked into them a few times!

Almost all of her products are made of sustainable materials. My favorite items are her plantables, the confetti or letterpress coins that can be planted and turned into wild flowers! Every piece has so much thought put into it. Please check out their website lovewilddesign.com. With the holidays right around the corner these are perfect stocking stuffers or hostess gifts!

this is 29

July 16, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in moon, art, brooklyn, illustrations, birthday

Teepees, super moons and tacos..... I can't think of anything more fitting for my birthday.

I decided for my first celebration of the last year of my twenties to have a grownup birthday party in a teepee.  I learned of this teepee through the lovely people of North Brooklyn Farms.  It's called The Tipi Project and it's located in Havemeyer Park in Williamsburg.  All I wanted was to spend some relaxing time making art with the people that I love.  And I got to do just that!

The Tipi Project is a nonprofit space that offers things like workshops, yoga classes and events and when the Tipi isn't in use you can rent it out for your own boho party or gathering.  Denise hooked me up and was super helpful with the whole planning process.  I highly recommend at least visiting the space if you're in the area.

My morning started at Salon AKS where Sadah tatted me up and made my hair pretty and pink. Then it was off to the teepee. The day was a warm, beautiful day.  My friends brought their own personalized art projects.  Molly worked on her jewelry, Liz started building a vintage style camera from scratch and Kenzie... my beautiful lawyer... brought a kids coloring book.  I had made some lemonade with blackberries, strawberries and mint.  It was the perfect non-alcoholic refreshment and super easy to make!  We ended the night by eating tacos and drinking Prosecco under the super moon.  It was....... the best.

birthdays in wonderland

July 15, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in birthday, brooklyn, nyc

My 29th birthday was an absolute dream from start to finish.  It started with a vacation home to see my family and close friends, went on to celebrate in a teepee in a beautiful park, then sipped champagne and St. Germain under the super moon and ended with a fairytale.  My dear friend Sadah planned a whole day filled with clues and activities based on one of my favorite stories, Alice in Wonderland.  Everything lead up to the final event which was a late night interactive play called "Then She Fell" in Williamsburg.  This play takes you through a psych ward and into the mind of Alice.  Very similar to Sleep No More, but a little more personal.  My favorite part was the mad tea party.  It was SUCH a great experience.  I really do have the best people in my life. Thank you to my Angel Face as well for helping with the surprise.  It was seriously a day I will never forget.  29 will treat us well!

c + m horoscopes: cancer

June 29, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in art, astrology, brooklyn, fire escape sketches, flower crowns, flowers, horoscopes, illustrations, sundays, wall art

Cancer is, as you've guessed, the astrological sign that I hold nearest and dearest to my heart because it is of course my sign!  Hence, the crab and the moon.  The crab being the zodiac symbol and the moon being our ruling planet.

I plan on making this a two part series by doing an additional crab illustration.  I've been sketching but it hasn't really clicked just yet.

This little number I came up with is a waning crescent moon, which is the moon I was born under, with poppies, peonies and lithianthus blooming from it.  The flowers and the outer circle also represent a flower crown symbolizing summer and every moon maiden's inner flower child.  It was originally suppose to be my first tattoo.   This piece is very special to me to say the least.

beauty, dreams and floral collide

June 10, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in flowers, floral design, brooklyn, inspiration

If there were ever a company that would make my stomach drop and these hazel eyes tear up a bit it would have to be Saipua. Now I know that seems dramatic, especially since I was only introduced to them today (of course I had to share), but wow. This brand is like a little piece of heaven.

They are a family owned business that started as a soap company. Now, as you can see, they have mastered floral design and opened their own farm so that they can grow their own flowers. You must visit their website. The photos are so inspiring and beautiful.

I am super intrigued by their Little Flower School. I think this is something that would make me smile on the daily. And what do you know! They're located right in Brooklyn.

A huge thank you to little Miss Lauren Schindel who found this treasure and knew it was the website of my dreams. Lauren, let's set a date to go explore!
