beauty, dreams and floral collide

June 10, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in flowers, floral design, brooklyn, inspiration

If there were ever a company that would make my stomach drop and these hazel eyes tear up a bit it would have to be Saipua. Now I know that seems dramatic, especially since I was only introduced to them today (of course I had to share), but wow. This brand is like a little piece of heaven.

They are a family owned business that started as a soap company. Now, as you can see, they have mastered floral design and opened their own farm so that they can grow their own flowers. You must visit their website. The photos are so inspiring and beautiful.

I am super intrigued by their Little Flower School. I think this is something that would make me smile on the daily. And what do you know! They're located right in Brooklyn.

A huge thank you to little Miss Lauren Schindel who found this treasure and knew it was the website of my dreams. Lauren, let's set a date to go explore!

Mallory Sophronia

June 05, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in art, diy, flower crowns, jewelry, interior design, wall art, store design, apparel, artist

Mallory Sophronia opened their first ever brick and mortar this past weekend! The apparel and accessories line has a new home in a cottage in Kennebunk, Maine within the Morning Walk Galleries.

Kennebunk could quite possibly be one of my favorite places to visit. It has beautiful views, just a real sense of calm and more importantly, the best seafood. Ever.

Mallory Sophronia caters to the bohemian beach babe. The girl behind the brand pays homage to her ancestors and their namesake through her handmade goods. What differentiates Mallory from other designers is that she makes clothing that fits all body types, there is no right or wrong way to wear her pieces and each piece is a true one of a kind. Her designs range from flowy and oversized to short and sexy.

My favorite piece I own at the moment is a printed purple kimono. It doubles as a skimpy robe around the apartment and a top that hints at a little too much, paired back to my black leather shorts. And of course... I own one of the orchid flower crowns. L O V E .

Mallory and I installed the interior space in about 3 days. Her family contributed a lot as well. The whole experience was so fun and freeing. We just did whatever the hell we wanted with no restraints. It was pretty cool.

To shop Mallory Sophronia from the comfort of your home go to mallorysophronia.com

If you're lucky enough to be in the area of the shop they are located at 2 Morning Walk Lane in Kennebunk, Maine at The Galleries at Morning Walk. The shop is open Mon, Wed, Fri-Sun from 10:00am - 5:00pm.

flower crown wall art

June 01, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in diy, art, interior design, plants, sundays, wall art, flower crowns

It's officially summer!!  Which means it is officially appropriate to wear fresh flowers in your hair at all times. Fresh flower crowns are one of my favorite things about summer.  The perfect accessory for any boho babe.  The downfall of it all is that they only last 1 - 2 days, which makes this chick real sad.  So to turn my flower frown upside down I dry them out and incorporate them in my room as wall art!  It's pretty simple and it allows me to showcase all of the special occasions where I have worn these beautiful pieces.

After the crown starts to wilt place it on a tapered round lampshade to dry out (remove the shade or use only when the shade is cool) then hang!   You can also have them framed in a shadow box but if you're on a budget like me, hanging them is just fine.

Let the crowns live on!

fire escape sketches

May 17, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in illustrations, art, fire escape sketches, astrology

Today was absolutely beautiful outside, so obviously I had to create a comfortable little nook on my fire escape and take my work outside!  I brought the plant babies as well.  They needed a little fresh air.

As my very first project for the crab + the moon I will be illustrating the astrological signs.  What inspired me was one of my closest friends becoming a mom for the first time.  So this first sketch is for her.  As you can see it is Aries.  And this is stage one.

adorn your plants

April 06, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in home decor, interior design, plants, sundays

Everywhere I've lived the first thing I do is make my own little gypsy cave.  My Brooklyn bedroom was the first place that I actually took my time developing.  My room now is my favorite place to be.

Over the past few months I've added color and life through floral, fabric and p l a n t s !  The addition of plants, whether real or fake, is what really sets my room apart from any other place I've lived.  The amount of natural light I get definitely plays a huge factor as well.  Plants can really transform a space from feeling flat and dismal to a space with dimension, character and life (quite literally)!

Today I decided to elevate my flower child haven even more by implementing stones and other forms of nature to my plant babies for their own little makeover. I have added special stones, shells and gold flecks to each pot and plant arrangement.  I have to say I l o v e the final product!  I'm a big believer in the power of stones, so I figured why not mix the elements, both plants and stones, and have them live in my most serene space.  Now everything in here has it's own special jewel or flower crown.

My favorite is the lapis lazuli.  I read that I am suppose to alway have a piece of lapis touching my skin.  Knowing this I took my lapis stone and adorned my favorite plant that from time to time I use on my skin.  Now Al has his own piece of jewelry.

It's really making me smile on this beautiful S U N D A Y .

love in the new moon

March 30, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in tarot, love, sundays

As a hobby.. and sometimes to make huge life decisions.. I read tarot cards.  The tarot deck I love and know so well is The Enchanted Tarot by Amy Zerner and Monte Farber.  The book and teachings are very easy to follow but really, it was the illustrations that really reeled me in.  I am someone who proudly judges a book by its cover and to be honest, it has worked in my favor.  It is part of my job to buy books that will never be read and will only serve as a visual prop.  So don't judge.

The card illustrations are so beautiful that I have played with the idea of buying another deck so that I can frame some of the cards.  If you are into tarot I highly recommend this set.

Last night I did a Three Level Spread for myself.  The Three Level Spread offers knowledge of your past, present and future as well as your mind, body and spirit.  As many people do I asked a question involving love.  My present was the Ace of Hearts which, by definition, is Love.

The book tells of each card in three parts.  It tells of The Dream, The Awakening and The Enchantment.  The Dream is basically the story and concept behind the card.  The awakening is the actual straight-to-the-point meaning of the card and the enchantment is basically a little ritual you can practice to enhance your reading.  They say... if you preform "The Enchantment" of the card you see as the most appropriate, then it helps to "reinforce your awareness of, and belief in, the unseen forces that surround you."  Now I know this sounds like a bunch of witch craft cult shit but all they really are, are just little forms of meditation.

I thought the one for the Ace of Hearts was particularly nice, especially for a Sunday night.  It also involves the new moon, which incidentally, is tonight!

Ok it's either this.. or I sign up for OkCupid... or do both!

If you think this is ridiculous or just plain silly it's totally fine.  However, it is important to enter a new moon phase with an open heart and an open mind. Have a wonderful Sunday and a great week.  Namaste.

the crab, the lioness and el apache

March 18, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou

One Friday evening as the sun went down, my best girl and I were challenged to frolic around San Diego with nothing but an iPhone, a comforter and our freest of spirits.

This is what we came up with.

My room needed a little bit of a facelift.  It was reading a little too tired and not enough floral gypsy princess.  So you know.. I made it happen.

Here are some before.. during.. and after shots.

homemade sea salt spray

January 26, 2014 by Taryn Antoniou in diy, sundays

As soon as I turned 28 shit went down.  All of a sudden my skin looks like a preteen's (I had better skin between the ages 12-17 than I do now) and I have eczema patches.. it's the worst.

I don't want to use any harsh treatments on my skin so I searched for a homeopathic solution.  I came across the Wellness Mama blog and grabbed this great recipe for homemade sea salt spray.  I noticed that when I was vacationing in Hawaii my skin issues vanished and my complexion was clear.  It could have been a number of factors like the elimination of stress, the humidity in the air, diet.. however there are studies that show how salt and salt water have some pretty decent benefits for the skin.  It can reduce wrinkles, helps tighten the skin and clears up acne.  It can also be used for therapeutic purposes which is known as Thalassotherapy.

On this snowy and lazy Sunday I made some sea salt spray of my own.  Below is the recipe..  The pink Himalayan salt is so pretty.  For the essential oils I'm trying Tea Tree oil since I like the smell, it has a lot of healing qualities and is great for the skin.  You just have to be careful because it could dry you out.  I added pieces of Lavender to make it pretty.. because that's what's important here.  I'm going to use it for the next couple of weeks and see how it goes!

I think what the real issue is, is New York City.

Thank God I'll be in LA next week!
